Kanku Sho (To Look at the Sky, minor version) This kata poses some interesting technical challanges to the practitioner, not least of which are two jumps - one recalling the twist into shuto uke from Empi, and another that introduces a flying mikazuki geri (incorporating ushiro geri) that can also be seen in the advanced kata Unsu.
History Kusanku Sho was created by Yasutsune Itosu as a sibling kata to the older Kusanku (Kanku Dai in Shotokan). It is credited as having been preserved through the teachings of Asanobu Chihana, one of Itosu's senior students. ~ GE | - | back to main kata page | - | |
